An engineer, manager, and a programmer are in a car going down a steep mountain road. The brakes fail and the car careens down the road out of control. Halfway down, the driver manages to stop the car by sliding against the embankment, narrowly avoiding careening off the cliff. They all get out, shaken by their narrow escape from death, but otherwise unharmed.

The manager says, "To fix this problem we need to organize a committee, have meetings, and through process of continuous improvement, develop a solution."

The engineer says, "No that would take too long, besides that method never worked before. I have my trusty pen knife here and will take apart the brake system, isolate the problem and correct it."

The programmer says, "You’re both wrong! I think we should all push the car back up the hill and see if it happens again."

Windows 7 is here! The hotly anticipated follow-up to the (insert adjective here) Windows Vista. At PDC (Professional Developers Conference), Microsoft unveiled the Pre-Beta version of Windows 7. Many exciting new features and overall a new approach by Microsoft with regards to GUI eversince their Ribbon-interface of Office 2007. Frankly I’m excited by these changes, and hopefully many more changes to come to really separate it from Vista.

Summit Live presents, Consumer Electronics Live! (CEL) Manila 2008 at SMX Convention Center in Mall of Asia, Pasay City on October 24-26, 2008. This event seeks to bring together all devices and gadgets that make life pleasurable. The exhibit will showcase products and services that visitors will want to see, experience and purchase.

This is the Philippines’ version of the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) held each January in Las Vegas, Nevada. The only problem I have with CEL is that I don’t have enough money to buy the things I’ll see in there and probably I’ll end up drooling all over the place.

Try to follow DRY and KISS principle at the same time a little YAGNI.

Lesson One

An eagle was sitting on a tree resting, doing nothing. A small rabbit saw the eagle and asked him, “Can I also sit on my as s like you and do nothing?” the eagle answered, “Sure why not?” So the rabbit sat on the ground below the eagle and rested. All of a sudden, a fox appeared, jumped on the rabbit and ate it.

Management Lesson: To be sitting on your as s and doing nothing, you must be sitting very high up.

Lesson Two

A turkey was chatting with a bull. “I would love to be able to get to the top of that tree,” sighed the turkey, “but I haven’t got the energy.” “Well, why don’t you nibble on some of my manure droppings?” replied the bull. “They’re packed with nutrients.” The turkey pecked at a lump of manure and found it actually gave him enough strength to reach the lowest branch of the tree. The next day, after eating some more dung, he reached the second branch. Finally after the fourth night, he was proudly perched at the top of the tree. Soon he was promptly spotted by a farmer, who shot the turkey out of the tree.

Management Lesson: Bullsh** might get you to the top, but it won’t keep you there.

Lesson Three

A little bird was flying south for the winter. It was so cold the bird froze and fell to the ground in a large field. While it was lying there, a cow came by and dropped some dung on it. As the frozen bird lay there in the pile of dung, it began to realize how warm it was. The dung was actually thawing him out. He lay there all warm and happy and soon began to sing for joy. A passing cat heard the bird singing and came to investigate. Following the sound, the cat discovered the bird under the pile of cow dung and promptly dug him out and ate him.

Management Lessons: (1) Not everyone who shits on you is your enemy; (2) Not everyone who gets you out of s hit is your friend; and (3) When you’re in deep s hit, it’s best to keep your mouth shut.

Why oh why do some people cross the pedestrian lane even though the traffic light is green? I just can’t find the logic! Is 30 secs to a minute that important to risk it all? Accidents happen not because of ‘fate’ but because of some ‘idiots’. Maybe we should all give the ‘idiots’ the Darwin Award. And oh pardon me, I’m almost late, you see I’m blogging this while I’m crossing the streeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet….. *screetch* *nooooo* *blag* *kapow* *smack* *kaboom* *arggggg*
